The Vitrex® Brand offers a complete range of sterile, surgical absorbable and non-absorbable sutures, that offer short and mid-term tensile strength and absorption duration.
Various suture materials are available for different specialities, procedures, and tissue types within the veterinary market, human healthcare and dental markets. Vitrex® Sutures are state-of-the-art and improve the lives of patients worldwide.
A surgical suture is one of the most common medical devices used by medical professionals during surgeries. Surgical suture materials are used in the closure of most wound types. The ideal suture should allow the healing tissue to recover effectively to keep the wound closed together once the sutures are removed or absorbed.
Vitrex® combines strength and smooth handling properties alongside state-of-the-art manufacturing to provide a cost-effective solution for everyday use. Whatever sutures you currently use, please feel free to give us a call and we'll be more than happy to recommend an equivalent suture in our range.

Chirlac Braided Sutures
CHIRLAC braided sutures are a mid-term absorbable, synthetic, multifilament suture material of extremely high tensile strength. Coated with an absorbable substance, which reduces the capillary effect, provides excellent holding properties and diminishes the tendency to cut into the flesh, while ensuring that the knots hold firmly.
Key Features;
✔ Strength Retention Profile: Mid-Term Healing (28 - 35 Days)
✔ Mass Absorption Profile: 80 - 90 Days
✔ Synthetic, multifilament suture material
✔ Extremely high tensile strength
✔ Homopolymer of hydroacetic acid (glycolic acid)
✔ Low frictional properties
✔ Holds firmly without slipping when knotted
✔ Excellent holding properties
+ Indication: General soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, for the surgical adaptation of Muscles and Fascia, for suturing of Parenchymal organs, peripheral nerves, for ligatures of small vessels and for Intradermal suturing.
+ Contraindication: Chirlac braided should not be used in tissues subject to expansion, stretching or distention, or which might require long-term mechanical support (longer than 7 days).
Polydox Monofilament Sutures
POLYDOX monofilament is a long-term absorbable, synthetic suture made of polydioxanone. These sutures offer good handling combined with great strength due to their slow degradation profile. Ideal for all indications, where extended wound support of more than 4 weeks is desirable. The threads are available in violet and natural colours.
Key Features;
✔ Strength Retention Profile: Long-Term Healing (90 - 98 Days)
✔ Mass Absorption Profile: 180 - 240 Days
✔ Good Handling Combined With Great Strength
✔ Slow Degradation Profile
✔ Very Flexible, Pliable & Easy to Knot
+ Indication:
General soft tissue approximation, Orthopaedics (e.g. Joint capsule, Tendons), Fascia Closure, Urology, Gynaecology and Plastic surgery.
+ Contraindication:
Polydox monofilament should not be used where prolonged approximation of tissues under stress is required.
Monolac Monofilament Sutures
MONOLAC monofilament is a mid-term absorbable, synthetic suture made of glycolide and E-Caprolactone, available in natural colour for the closure of superficial wounds and in violet for all other indications, when a mid-term monofilament is needed.
Key Features;
✔ Strength Retention Profile: Mid-Term Healing (30 Days)
✔ Mass Absorption Profile: 90 - 120 Days
✔ Completely metabolised in the body
✔ Made of glycolide and E-Caprolactone
✔ Available in natural colour for the closure of superficial wounds
+ Indication:
General soft tissue approximation and/or ligation in all specialities, where an absorbable material is indicated.
+ Contraindication:
Monolac monofilament should not be used in tissues subject to expansion, stretching or distention, or which might require long-term mechanical support.
Silon Monofilament Sutures
SILON monofilament is a non-absorbable, synthetic suture made of polyamide, which has a smooth non-porous surface.
The thread is extremely useful for skin sutures and has a high tensile strength in knots, and knots tie down easily. The thread is available in blue and black.
Key Features;
✔ Non-Absorbable
✔ Made of Polyamide
✔ Smooth, Non-Porous Surface
✔ High Tensile Strength
+ Indication: Plastic and General surgery, and wherever suturing the skin.
+ Contraindication: Silon monofilament should not be used when long-term mechanical support is required.
Chirlac Rapid Braided Sutures
CHIRLAC Rapid Braided is a short-term absorbable, coated, synthetic, multifilament suture made of low molecular weight polyglycolic acid. The substances contained in the coating and suture are nonantigenic and non-collagenous. Chirlac Rapid Braided is available in violet and natural.
Key Features;
✔ Absorbable
✔ Made of Polyglycolic Acid
✔ Non-Antigenic and Non-Collagenous
+ Indication: Gynaecology, Ophthalmic (e.g. Conjunctiva), Odontology (e.g. Oral Mucosa), Paediatric and Skin Closure (Intracutaneous, Subcutaneous).
+ Contraindication: Chirlac Rapid Braided should not be used in tissues subject to expansion, stretching or distension, or which might require long-term mechanical support, longer than seven days. The suture is not for use in cardiovascular or neurological tissues.
