✚ It is recommended to not use fabric conditioner, to help make them last longer.

✚ They are also safe to be tumble dried on low-heat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do They Dry Quickly?

Yes, these pads are made from polyester, which is one of the fastest drying and absorptive materials out there. You can hang them to dry, which will only take a few hours. Alternatively, you can put them on a quick, low-heat tumble dry cycle.

Can These be Used For Poop, as Well as Pee?

Absolutely! It is recommended that you remove the poo, wipe the surface with a damp cloth and put the pad into the washing machine.

How Many Times Can a Pad be Used?

One reusable incontinence pad can be used and washed up to 300 times. Although some people have used them for years, so likely have got more use out of them. This is dependent on the nature of use and care.

How Big Are The Pads?

Standard pads are 80cm by 60cm and come in a pack of three. X-Large pads are also available, which are 90cm by 80cm and come in packs of 2.

How are the pads different from using a towel?

The pads consist of 4 layers, the middle layer is highly absorbent and keeps the fluid within the pad. The backing layer is waterproof and therefore prevents fluid and moisture from seeping through to the surface beneath. It lays flat like a mat, doesn't wrinkle up, and has a non-slip base.

Are these a complete replacement to disposable inco pads?

No. These are best used alongside disposable pads to reduce their overall use. In a clinical setting, it is likely we will always require disposable options. However, there are many scenarios where a reusable pad would suffice so it is important that we practice rational use (vs blanket use) of disposables to reduce environmental harm.

Can They be Vacuumed?

Yes. These pads are thicker and heavier than disposables, allowing you to run a vacuum over them if needed.

How Often do They Need to be Washed?

This will be dependent on usage and soilage per individual case.

Do They Stay Leakproof After Multiple Washes?

One of the key benefits of these pads is that they are incredibly durable and waterproof, thanks to the bottom layer which is made of PU (polyurethane).

Do They Keep The Odour in?

Yes - It's been found that many people report that they rarely smell and washing them effectively removes odours.

Can These Pads be Used For Whelping Bitches, Under Cat Litter Trays, For Guinea Pigs, Rabbits or in Bird Cages?

Yes! These pads can be successfully used for a wide range of purposes, to protect doorways, car seats, crates, under food bowls, under litter trays, for whelping, within hutches or to protect soft furnishings, such as sofas and beds.

Please check the sizing to ensure they are fit for your needs.

What about the risk of cross-infection?

These pads are best used in the many instances where pathogen spread is not a concern. Pads should be washed thoroughly the same way other reusable fabrics are cleaned – bedding, blankets, towels, etc. A risk assessment should be performed with clinical judgement as to decide when a disposable pad might be more appropriate.

Uses of Reusable Inco Pads in Practice:

✚ Lining kennels and wards

✚ Base layer during euthanasia (in practice and home visits)

✚ Protecting surfaces and absorbing fluids during messy procedures, flushing, and induction of emesis

✚ Keeping surfaces and patients dry during dentals

✚ Car seat protection when transporting animals

✚ Incontinent patients

✚ Below food and water bowls in clean areas of the practice (e.g. waiting rooms)

Extra Tips:

✚ Don't use the pad for anything else (e.g. play time or for eating) as you want them to only associate it with toileting.

✚ A puppy can't control their bladder until they are 16 weeks old and they may have to go as frequently as every few hours due to their tiny bladder size. Accidents are inevitable initially. Remember to never punish them for accidents as this will only scare and confuse them and they will likely learn not to toilet in front of you (rather than toileting in the wrong spot).

✚ Clean up any accidents to avoid them toileting in the same place again.

✚ Stay vigilant at all times! It's crucial that you keep a very close eye on your puppy during this time. This will ensure that you catch them before they have an accident and it's imperative that your puppy associates toileting with going to their puppy pad.
