Multi-Spike Large Animal Solution Giving Set, provides an easy and reliable method of delivering up to 28litres/hr of fluids for fast IV therapy to large animals.
Directions for Use:
- Suspend 2 or 4 fluid containers, *depending on model used. Bags will finish in descending order.
- Remove set from pack. Close all on/off pinch clamps on inlet tubes above drip chamber.
- Remove cap from one inlet spike. Push spike into outlet port of one fluid bag, breaking the seal and allowing a firm connection. Note: if bags are renewed at any time, ensure no spike is pushed further into a second port, as bacteria may be introduced.
- To ensure a secure connection, push white spike supports into seam holes either side of bag outlet port.
- Repeat steps 3. and 4. with subsequent* spikes and bags.
- Prime the set, while observing aseptic technique:
Close on/off slide clamp on the coil.
Remove cap of the distal luer lock.
Open blue antibacterial air-vent on top of burette chamber.
Open on/off pinch clamp of one fluid bag to allow fluid to part-fill the burette chamber (about 2/3rds helps prevent air bubbles reaching the bottom of the chamber), then close the air-vent to stop further filling.
Open on/off pinch clamp of the next bag*, then the on/off slide clamp on the coil.
This procedure allows the outlet tube to be filled with little or no entrained bubbles. - To conveniently adjust the depth of fluid in the chamber, open or close appropriate combinations of the air-vent and on/off clamps. When the set is primed, checked and found to be bubble free, use the on/off slide clamp on the coil to stop flow as desired and attach to the catheter or connector.
- Additional fluid bags may be attached in a ‘daisy chain’ to the first two/four* using transfer sets.
- Additives or other drugs may be introduced via the injection sites on the burette top or near the luer lock.
- The drip rate can be adjusted using the roller clamp or screw clamp.
- Two plastic ties are provided. The non releasable type is used to hold the releasable tie in place on the distal end of the tubing. The releasable tie is used to secure the tubing to braided mane, collar, or other convenient point near the catheterisation site.
