Uses:
- Measuring periodontal pocket and gingival sulcus depth
- Scoring gingivitis – by bleeding index (on gentle rubbing of gum margin)
- Measuring gingival hyperplasia or recession
- In calculating periodontal attachment loss
How to use:
- The instrument is held in a modified pen grip.
- The instrument tip is inserted behind the gingival margin and gently advanced down the root surface until the base of the pocket (gingival attachment)is felt.
- Using the markings, the depth of the periodontal pocket or the amount of attachment loss is measured.
