Dental elevator for cutting the gingival attachment and loosening the tooth, by breaking down the periodontal ligament, in tooth extraction. Also called the Wigg’s elevator after the American veterinary dentist who designed them.

These dental elevators are a significant modification
on the standard Couplands elevator - the concave trough is shorter and
has side extensions, or wings. The shank immediately above is narrow
to allow good visualization of instrument placement. The tip is thin to give
optimal penetration below the gumline to make contact lower down on the root.
